Italy Claviere
Claviere is a genuine Italian village with lots of charm and character. It is Italy’s oldest resort located on one of the smaller legs of the Milky Way spider and it also offers access to the French resort of Montgenevre. This is a great place for school groups to stay for a more peaceful entry to the massive ski area. Set in a wooded spot, this is a relaxed, quiet resort. The Claviere runs are varied and attractive, curving through trees on the shoulders of the high divide between Italy and France. Like neighbouring Montgenevre, the snow record is first class. For beginners, there's a pleasant, flat area in the village and an enormous blue run which starts above the trees and goes all the way back to the village. Enthusiastic beginners will feel a great sense of achievement if they can manage all of it. Intermediates have many choices including some adventurous semi off-piste down little paths which wind through trees and seem to go on forever. Advanced skiers have some good reds, some inspiring off-piste, and there's always the Milky Way to explore. There's an attractive sense of ski tradition here. The village has masses of character and low priced border-town shopping is an added bonus. Another nice thing about Claviere is the many traditional mountain restaurants which can be reached by all levels of skier. A lively Après-ski programme can be organised for your group to include tobogganing, skidoo ride, ice skating etc. As with most Italian ski resorts, Claviere offers superb value, while the locals are very hospitable.
