Italy Aprica The lively village of Aprica in the Lombardy region of Italy has a superb range of skiing for all abilities and is surrounded by unspoilt alpine landscapes. There are extensive nursery slopes ideal for first year skiers. Beginners and intermediates are particularly well catered for in this thoughtfully planned resort but there are also enough runs to test the expert. The Palabione ski area is the highest in the region - it rises to an altitude of 2,440 metres (and includes a World Cup racing piste!). The ski slopes lie between 1,200 and 2,300 metres allowing testing and exhilarating skiing for advanced skiers with a long black run descending to the village. The main uplift is via the Palabione chairlift and gondola which run parallel from the village centre, taking skiers to the middle station at 1,700m. This is a marvellous area served by a range of lifts, which give access to the highest skiing on the Dosso Paso. From here you can ski all the way back to the village or you could be tempted to stop off at the large circular cafe/restaurant at the middle station for some refreshments. Aprica is famous for its enviable snow record and wide-ranging Après-ski possibilities. There is a good choice of pizzerias, bars with karaoke, coffee shops and discos, saunas, a cinema and indoor swimming at the modern sports/spa centre. Aprica also has an ice skating rink which is floodlit at night. The locals, as most Italians, love children and our groups are quickly made to feel at home. Click here for webcam |
